Raceboarding is fun but very technical. Freeriding is fun but you need planing conditions. The GO Windsurfer is also fun but it’s not very high performance.
So the Phantom Free fills that gap: a fun, high performance freeride raceboard.
Less technical than a full raceboard, more high performance than a GO Windsurfer, the Phantom Free is an all-new board for 2018.
We took a Phantom shape, trimmed it down to 271 cm, kept the Bat Wings, removed the adjustable mast track and simplified the deck configuration. The board becomes lighter, simpler and more fun for more people, in all conditions.

INTRO
We took a Phantom shape and trimmed it down to 271 cm long for more planing versatility, without taking away from the light wind performance.
BAT WINGS
We kept the Bat Wings.These Bat Wings offer a wide planing surface at high speeds with reduced drag and more lift at low speeds. This translates into earlier planing, improved upwind tracking, a wider wind range and the possibility to use larger fins.
FULL-LENGTH MAST TRACK
We removed the adjustable, slanted mast track of the Phantom Race and simplified the deck configuration to be more ergonomic and intermediates-friendly.The mast track keeps its length for versatility and a wider wind range.
PROFILE
The Phantom Free is 16.2 cm thick at its thickest point, which is more than 3 cm thinner than a full-blown Phantom 377 raceboard.Being thinner gives the Phantom Free more wind range, better control in planing conditions and more stability in lighter winds.
DRAKE SLICK FOOTSTRAPS
There are two rows of footstraps inserts for both intermediate positions to the outside expert positions.They come with a new generation of Drake Slick straps that are narrower than the wave straps and where the top cover is made from recycled plastic bottles, in partnership with Waste2Wear. They're strong and comfortable with strap-size indicators for easy adjustments.
FREERIDE POWER
The Phantom Free is delivered with our Drake Freeride Power CNC G-10 fins that have a thin tip for speed and control.The upright rake and thick base of these fins provide maximum stability and traction at all speeds.
CUT-AWAYS
They feature cut-aways that reduce the extra drag created by the Bat Wings.
This helps the fin grip while improving top speed and the ability to quickly accelerate.
CLIPPERBOX DAGGERBOARD
The Phantom Free is supplied with a daggerboard that's less powerful than a Phantom Race daggerboard yet still allows the board to rail up in light winds.The daggerboard uses Starboard's Clipperbox daggerbox system that clicks in and out and can be removed without tools, by positioning the daggerboard at 45 degrees and pulling up.
The water-sealing rubber lips are ultra-durable and can also be replaced without tools.
3DX
The Phantom Free is available in our exclusive 3DX construction.3DX stands for three dimensional biaxial glass micro-sandwich construction. Both deck and bottom are wrapped in 45 degree biaxial glass fiber wetted out with an expanding foam epoxy cured under high pressure.
The biaxial glass gives a crisp, stiff feel with flex for choppy conditions. The foam epoxy creates a 2mm skin thickness for a micro-sandwich effect: tough and strong.
